Manufacturing, MRP, Quality and Maintenance

Manufacturing manual with BOM, order, reporting, inspection, assets and maintenance fields.

How to read this pageEach field explains what it is for, what to enter and an example. If your company does not use a feature, that field may not appear for your profile.

1. What Manufacturing is for

Manufacturing transforms materials into finished goods and connects planning, consumption, execution, quality, assets and maintenance.

Product→BOM→Routing→Production order→Reporting→Quality→Cost / inventory

2. Main manufacturing fields

The fields below appear across Production, MRP, Quality, Assets and Maintenance.

FieldWhat it is / why it existsWhat to enterExample / rule
Search code or number
Optional
Finds a product, BOM, production order or asset.Type part of the code/number.Use it to narrow the list.
Product
When applicable
Product to manufacture/control.Select from the catalog.Required according to the operation.
Active BOM
When applicable
Bill of materials used for the product.Select the effective structure.Basis for material consumption/MRP.
Routing
When applicable
Sequence of manufacturing operations.Select the applicable routing.Organizes production steps.
Planned quantity
When applicable
Quantity intended for production.Enter the quantity.Planning basis.
Planned start / end
When applicable
Expected period for the order.Enter dates/times.Used for scheduling.
BOM code / name
When applicable
Identifies the bill of materials.Use a recognizable code and name.Example: BOM-PROD-001.
BOM status
When applicable
Controls whether the BOM is draft or active.Use DRAFT while preparing and ACTIVE when released.Prevents premature use.
Component
When applicable
Material used by the BOM.Select a component product. One per line.
Quantity per
When applicable
Component quantity used per finished unit.Enter the technical quantity.Example: 2 screws per unit.
Scrap / loss %
Optional
Expected technical loss percentage.Enter when the process uses a loss factor.Percentage.
Operation / operation code
When applicable
Step in the routing.Give it a clear name and code.Example: CUTTING / OP10.
Good quantity
When applicable
Approved production quantity.Enter the good output.Used in production reporting.
Rejected quantity
When applicable
Rejected production quantity.Enter rejects/losses.Supports quality and costing.
Quality plan
When applicable
Set of checks that apply.Select the correct plan.Links inspection to the rule.
Result
When applicable
Inspection result.Choose PASSED or FAILED.Failed requires treatment.
Nonconformity description
When applicable
Description of the quality nonconformity.Explain the issue when inspection fails.NC = nonconformity.
Corrective action
When applicable
Action that will correct/prevent the issue.Enter when applicable.Example: rework.
Asset location
Optional
Where the machine/equipment is located.Enter the operational location.Helps maintenance.
Interval in days
When applicable
Maintenance plan frequency.Enter the periodicity.Example: 30.
Maintenance type
When applicable
Classifies preventive or corrective work.Choose the type.PREVENTIVE / CORRECTIVE.
Priority
When applicable
Urgency of the maintenance order.Choose the level.LOW/NORMAL/HIGH/URGENT.
Meter / value / unit
When applicable
Operational reading of an asset.Enter meter name and reading.Example: Hour meter 1250 h.

3. Bill of materials (BOM)

The BOM answers: “which materials and quantities are required to produce one unit?”.

  1. Choose the finished product.
  2. Create or select the BOM.
  3. Add each component.
  4. Enter quantity per unit.
  5. Enter technical loss only when there is a defined rule.
  6. Review and activate the BOM when it is correct.

4. Quality

Inspections record passed/failed results and allow nonconformity and corrective action to be described.

NonconformityIf the result fails, describe the observed fact. Avoid vague statements such as “bad”. Write the verifiable defect.

5. Assets and maintenance

Assets represent machines/equipment. Plans define frequency; work orders record service; readings capture meters.

  1. Register the asset and location.
  2. Define the maintenance plan and interval.
  3. Create/open the maintenance order.
  4. Record type, priority and description.
  5. When performing the work, record the outcome and applicable readings.
